I'm a Big Boy Now

Quentin has always been a long/tall baby. So, I finally decided that he was almost too long for his infant car seat and it was time for me to get him a regular cat seat. Of course, I picked one that is gender neutral. I figure if I'm spending that much on a car seat, a little girl (if we have one) is going to be able to use it also!

The day it came in, we immediately sat down in the floor together and figured out how to work the thing. Quentin was very excited when I put him in it to adjust the harness. He is very proud of how big he is getting, as you can tell from this picture!

He loves being able to look out the windows now, such a big boy!

Alphabetically Challenged

I'm pretty sure that Quentin is Alphabetically Challenged!

So far, he loves to eat Zucchini, Yogurt, Squash, Peaches, Pears...

But when it comes to the letter "A", we aren't having too much luck.

You may remember the applesauce adventure from a few weeks ago.

Well, a couple of weeks ago, I made some Asparagus. I bet you can see where this is going. I made enough for 3 servings. I try everything at least 3 times because that is how many times it takes him to like some things. Usually, by the 3rd time, we know if it is a thumbs up or thumbs down. This is a picture from the 3rd serving of Asparagus.

So, now, I am a little afraid to try Avocados!! ;)

Sippy Cup Adventure

A couple of weeks ago, I decided that it was time for Quentin to try the sippy cup. If you know me, you know that I have been a little slow on everything food/drink wise with Quentin. I know that by the time he is a year old, he will be eating and drinking like he is suppose to, and I just haven't felt like hurrying him up. I just figure they are only babies so long, so why rush them?!?!

All that being said, I decided it was time that Quentin started learning how to use the sippy cup. I have some that have handles on them so he can hold him, but he HATES them. The sippy part is a lot harder on them than other cups, so we might have to wait a little while longer before we try those out again. I decided to use the sippy cups that came with his "Take & Toss" kit someone gave to me at one of my showers. By the way, I LOVE that kit and highly recommend it to anyone!!!!

Quentin loves to drink out of our cups, so since the Take and Toss sippy cup looked like one of our cups, he was ready for it! It took him a couple of tries, but he caught on pretty quickly. Here are some pictures from Quentin's First Sippy Cup Adventure!

He spent some of the time using it a teething toy!

More Sippy Cup please Mom!

I've got the hang of this now!

*disclaimer: all the pictures in this post were taken with my iPhone, so that is why the quality isn't that good

A Little Excitment Now and Then

Well, last night, at about 7:15pm, Quentin and I were having a discussion about why he needed to finish his bottle and go to sleep because it had been a rough day and I KNEW he was exhausted and would be hungry in the middle of the night if he didn't finish his bottle. He wasn't listening to me very well on either count.

Just when I thought we were making progress, my cell phone rang. The screen said "Andria" who is a very very dear friend of ours from church. Her husband plays softball with Tommy, so I figured she was calling me from the game that Q and I were skipping. And then it hit me...SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED TO TOMMY! In the .25 seconds it took me to answer the phone, every imaginable thing that could have happened to him ran through my mind, so I'm pretty sure I already sounded hysterical when I answered the phone. She very quickly told me that Tommy had gotten hit in the head/face (I can't remember what she said) with a ball and needed to be taken to the hospital and would definitely need stitches. Tommy is the pitcher and so, my psychologically trained mind went DIRECTLY to Traumatic Brain Injury! I know Andria could tell I was upset, so she was telling me he was OK and handed the phone to Tommy so I could talk to him. He sounded like he was in A LOT of pain, but said he was OK. I told Andria what hospital to take him to and in between several calls to and from Andria/my mom/Tommy's mom and Tommy's sister and a stop at the gas station because I was on EMPTY, I finally calmed down enough to feel safe driving Q and I to the hospital. I got there and immediately went back to see Tommy...and this is what I saw...
Andria told me that after they got to the ER, and the gave him some cold/wet wash cloths to lay on it, that the swelling went down A LOT and the gash had already closed up quite a bit. It still looked pretty bad to me. I found out that, THANKFULLY, the ball hadn't come from a bat, but from the outfield when a team mate had thrown it in and Tommy was backing up the 2nd baseman (another very good friend Aaron). He said the ball was a little high and it looked like Aaron wasn't going to be able to get it, so Tommy put his glove up and then Aaron's glove tipped it and redirected it towards Tommy's face and he just didn't get his glove back down fast enough. Luckily, Aaron thought fast and took his shirt off and pressed it to Tommy's face and told him to go to the hospital immediately.

The doctor came in and checked him out and said that there was no nerve damage and they were going to send him for a CT scan to see if there were any broken bones/fractures. That was the first good news, because if there was nerve damage, he was going to have to head to the OR. The CT scan also came back negative (no broken or fractured bones) and so he got his stitches and we were out of there by about 10pm! The ER doctor was super nice, and said that Tommy was really lucky, that if it had hit him just a little bit higher, it could have caused some severe muscle/nerve damage. So, in the words of many of Tommy's friends: "That is going to be an AWESOME scar!"

Here he is 7 stitches later...
He is sleeping peacefully right now. They gave him 4 RX's and told him to take it easy. He isn't allowed to work while he is on his pain meds, so he might be home for a couple of days. I am so THANKFUL for all of our friends that helped us out last night. From pressing a t-shirt to his face, to taking him to the hospital, to waiting at the hospital for me to get there to going to pick Tommy's car up at the ball field and bringing it back to the hospital! And I am especially thankful for all of our family and friends that kept up with the happenings on Facebook and were offering up prayers for us during the whole ordeal! We are truly blessed on SO many levels!

I hope you have a blessed, injury free, day! ;)

Fall Family Fun

We have been pretty lazy the past couple of weeks or so. After the shows and the trip, we have really wanted to lay low!!! Quentin is moving pretty fast these days. Everyday, he learns how to move a little faster! I love watching him learn and grow a little bit everyday! Being his mom is the most amazing thing!

Trying to escape to Mom and Dad's room.

Uh Oh, Mom caught me!

Last week, we went over to my parents house for dinner and my Honey's (my dad) parents came over. Quentin just turned on the charm and entertained them for a little while! Here are a couple of pictures from that night!

I got this toy at the Fort Worth JBF sale before I knew what I was having. I had seen a couple of almost 1 year olds be fascinated by a toy like this one at a cousin's birthday party, so I decided to get my baby one. I remember playing with toys like this at doctor's office's growing up, even when I got a little older. Of course, Quentin doesn't really move the beads too much yet, but he LOVES to play with it! He will spin the beads around and around. It will keep him entertained for about 30 minutes! I am so glad he likes it!

And finally, this past Sunday we had Quentin's baby dedication at our church. The elder that did Quentin's was David Cox. Here is a picture of all of us after the dedication.
The weather is going to be awesome this week, so we are going to be spending a lot of time outside enjoying fall in Texas...we will see how long it lasts!!!

Happy Halloween!!!

If you know me very well, you know that I really could do without Halloween. I don't have any major objections to the holiday, but I have never really gotten into it. But, now that I have a little munchkin, it's time for me to step up my Halloween participation. It was a lot of fun to see our little Q-man all dressed up in his little...well, you will just have to read the whole post to see what he was dressed up as!

This is a cute little "My First Halloween" outfit that I got for him at the last Fort Worth JBF sale!

Here he is in part of his Daddy's costume. Tommy also wore a Ricky Williams football jersey....you can take a guess at what he was!

To start off the nights activities, we went over to our friends, the Ekpos, house for a little small group get together. I think there are at least as many kids in our small group as adults, so it was loud and crazy. The kids played games and the adults ate yummy food, watched football and laughed at the kids. Here are a few pictures of the boys trying to eat donuts off of strings. It was HILARIOUS! They couldn't use their hands!

After that, we headed a couple of blocks over to the Burleson Church of Christ Fall Funival. Since we use to attend there, we were looking forward to seeing all our friends! Here are some pictures from the Funival.

And here is our little... SKUNK!!! He was catching a ride on his Daddy's shoulders. The back of the costume, right on either side of the tail, said "Little Stinker"...how precious is that?!?! My cousin Julie gave the costume to me. I think she gave me enough Halloween costumes to last Q-man for the next few years!
And here are the pictures we took of our little skunk just hanging out at home before bath and bedtime. He was super tired, but he did great and seemed like he enjoyed it!

I smell something stinky! Maybe I better get out of this costume!

8

I know it is hard to believe, but Quentin is now EIGHT MONTHS OLD!! He is growing and learning so much everyday! His voice and sense of humor are starting to come out. I think he is going to be a comedian. He laughs A LOT and 'talks' just about as much! He is starting to learning new sounds to make, one of them is almost like a 'th' sound. Whenever I am talking on the phone, he just watches me and smiles/laughs, he thinks I am talking to him. Which I do talk to him quite a bit!! He LOVES anything with buttons! Especially if it isn't one of his own toys!

His teeth have started to come in also! YAY!!! He has one, the bottom left. It came in the weekend we were at ACU for my 10 year reunion! He is working on the other ones though. Sometimes, I feel so bad for him because he is in pain. I always have Tylenol and Orajel on hand!

He has also started to do a combo of the army crawl along with using his hands and head to pull him forward and his knees to lunge forward. It's kind of funny to watch. I know before long he will be moving so fast I can't keep up with him.

Ok, now on to the many many pictures.

We were at my parents office last week, and he needed something to occupy his time. They think they are training him to become and accountant and take over the practice...not if I have any say! :)

Lots of work to do!

Mom, I'm busy working!

Did you have an appointment?

So much paperwork!!!

Last week, on one of the days
when it wasn't raining, Quentin and I took a big blank out on the front lawn and watched the construction crew that is destroying the street that runs down the side of our house. Quentin loved being outside. There was a little bit of a breeze and he loved when it would blow his hair. He had a lot of fun!

He was fascinated by the Oleander bush for a little while.

The next two pictures crack me up. He is always sucking on his bottom lip now that his teeth are coming in. He was slowly leaning towards me, but looking right at the camera. I couldn't decide which one to post.

Next, I have put in a little picture montage. I have one of those cameras that if you hold the button down, it will keep taking pictures. So, while we were outside, I laid Q down on one side of the blanket and the phone on the other. You see, Q-man will only 'crawl' to get one of our 'toys', not his. I think this little montage is really cool, you know, like a video, which I could have taken since I have a video camera...but whatever. I know the grandparents/aunts/uncles will probably enjoy this just as much as I do. You can see how he uses his arms/knees/blanket/head to army crawl! He is pretty good at it!

Victory is so sweet!!! Look at that smile!

The next picture is of Quentin just playing on his blanket. See that toy he is grabbing for. I had purposely but it to his side when I sat him down. He turned his body around and went to grab it. That has been his favorite for months now, and as you can see, I give him PLENTY of options!

Quentin, you are truly a blessing and a joy! You have brought more to our lives than we could have ever imagined!! Happy 8 Months baby boy. We love you more than you will ever know!
